Unleashing nZero's potential

How I built a timeless and flexible design system that empowered the Creative team to scale the website to multiple brand touchpoints

nZero is the carbon management and accounting platform that empowers organizations with centralized data to reduce their emissions and tell their carbon story.

After being in stealth mode for a couple of years and building out the most accurate carbon analytics tool on the market, nZero was ready to shift its positioning from being a sustainability tool you need to reduce emissions and save money to being the enterprise data platform for all industries.

I was brought on to be a Creative partner within the organization to strategize, design, and scale the nZero brand across all brand and marketing touchpoints. I collaborated with the Design team to build a flexible design system, illustration and collage bank, a vast enablement material library, and documentation to effectively communicate the brand's story.

Rebrand: New name, new identity

Challenge

Post name change and logo redesign several crucial needs emerged, including:

  • Establishing a visual brand language that aligned with who nZero is and would be, had scalability, and set them apart from competitors

  • Creating comprehensive enablement materials to support the team

  • Empowering employees to generate brand-specific materials using templates and guidelines

Solution

Throughout the brand journey, we struck a balance between being daring and distinctive while staying true to nZero's essence. Our goal was to convey authenticity, trustworthiness, innovation, approachability, and empowerment through an editorial lens.

With a focus on granular data, the nZero platform empowers real change in the face of climate change, which affects real people. Our design system incorporated contrasting typography and visuals that brought movement and rhythm, emphasizing the inclusivity and diversity of the platform's data. The chosen colors aimed to evoke the platform's purpose: preserving a healthy planet for future generations.
